After three weeks of reading all the literature I could find and driving every type of CUT available, I finally made a decision. My brand new L3130 with FEL and 72" Woods mower will be delivered today. I have to give up an aged B8200HST and $16,000. Some of my old implements will seem a little small, but that's okay. I will know I made the right decision if I can grade my stone driveway going uphill. The old 8200 either ran out of power in mid range, or just spun all four tires in low. I should have gotten the canopy because they're calling for rain all weekend and I've already planned to spend two days pushing dirt and dragging trees. I have to say that both the JD dealer and Kubota dealer could not have been any nicer to work with. In the end it came down to about $1,000 and my eternal faith in the durability of a Kubota.

Congratulations on buying a fine tractor! If you think you might want a canopy; now is the time to get it and roll it into the purchase price and get the best deal on it as well as any other items such as a block heat or work lights. ....

Congrats indeed!!! If you loved your 'B' you're going to go over the top with joy on your new 'L' series.

I'm actually surprised the ole Chief advocated you getting a canopy though, I was sure he was going to tell you to go back and beat up the dealer for a whole mess of hats instead... ;-p Sorry Randy, I just had to, that was to obvious to let go by...

Best of luck.

Thanks Murf for reminding me about the hats! I need to tell you guys that I almost made a mistake. My old B8200 used to get about 19 hp. In the last few years it has become a bit anemic, no smoke or problems, it just didn't seem to have all the guts it used to. So I thought I'd go up a couple of hp and get the 2410. As you know, the hp increases faster than the cost, or so I convinced myself. So I started looking at the 30 hp tractors. I was impressed with the specs on the JD4310, especially when I saw that the weight was about 2000lbs more than the B7800. Thats when I was advised by you guys to look at the Kubota L series. That L3130 was impressive. I especially like the well protected front axle, the fast loader cycle times, and the 3 point capacity. My plan now is to take it easy on the new tractor. I will drive around the trees instead of knocking them over, at least for the first week! ....

WoodButcher,
You'll love your new tractor! Mine now has almost 350hrs, was new in mid-August, and I have no complaints. Has always started, though I usually garage it, no leaks, no problems.
Just check out all the little details while the driver is still around. My dealer forgot to install the block heater, had a serviceman up the same day, but I didn't miss the PTO shaft cover until later. The prep man should have put it in the toolbox. If you bought implements, he should have included the correct pins. Check for small scratches or dents, you're paying for a new tractor and it should look like new too!
Have fun with your 'big' tractor,
bliz ....
